Multi-1/LPCIe is a serial communication card built around SB16C1058PCI, SystemBase's own high-performance semiconductor. The SB16C1058PCI is a PCI bus UART that integrates one of the largest transmit/receive FIFOs available, at 256 bytes, delivering overrun-free performance even at a communication speed of 921.6Kbps. It also has a range of built-in functions essential for serial communication, so no additional components are needed and the circuit can be built with a minimal parts count, resulting in high reliability. Multi-1/LPCIe is available in two models supporting RS232 and RS422/RS485 (Combo) interfaces, and is used across a wide range of applications, including office automation and factory automation.
Through a jumper setting, Multi-1/LPCIe can supply +5V or +12V externally via pin 9 of its DB9 connector, in place of the RI signal line. This approach, pioneered by SystemBase, makes it simple to power devices such as barcode readers directly from the card. This removes the need for a separate power adapter, reducing additional cost while providing a cleaner installation and significant maintenance benefits.
Multi-1/LPCIe provides an Auto Toggling function for RS422/RS485 communication. This function prevents output signal collisions in an RS422 multidrop network or on an RS485 network. Because it is supported in both hardware and software, it can be conveniently configured with a simple setting on the setup screen.
Multi-1/LPCIe also features Slew Rate Limiting for RS422/RS485 interface communication. Slew Rate Limiting suppresses electromagnetic emissions generated during data communication. Noise produced during data transmission can sometimes cause malfunctions in sensitive equipment such as medical devices, or result in corrupted communication data. Slew Rate Limiting is designed to prevent this kind of noise. However, when this function is enabled, the maximum communication speed is limited to 250Kbps. This feature is primarily used in electromagnetically sensitive environments such as hospitals and research laboratories.
