SB16C1058PCI_FBGA176 enables 8 asynchronous serial communication ports over the PCI bus without requiring any external additional logic. It provides an easy, one-chip solution for building 8-port serial multiport cards. SB16C1058PCI_FBGA176 integrates 8 UARTs, each with a 256-byte transmit/receive FIFO, along with a global interrupt and dedicated control pins for RS422/485 Auto Toggling. The 256-byte FIFO reduces CPU overhead and increases data throughput.

SB16C1058_FBGA176 has a built-in 256-byte transmit/receive FIFO that reduces software overhead on the CPU, allowing the system to operate more reliably. The device supports two FIFO modes, a 64-byte mode and a 256-byte mode, which can be configured through the FCR (FIFO Control Register) and AFR (Additional Feature Register). The trigger level for the transmit FIFO can also be selected through these registers.
SB16C1058PCI_FBGA176 provides two types of Auto Toggling signals for each UART. These signals reduce the need for additional logic in RS422 and RS485 systems, allowing software engineers to control bus networking without requiring initial setup.
SB16C1058PCI_FBGA176 delivers fast conversion speed between PCI and UART, which directly contributes to overall system performance. The figure below illustrates the zero-wait PCI conversion speed of SB16C1058PCI_FBGA176. While the initial delay in the second stage is unavoidable, SB16C1058PCI_FBGA176 eliminates the two additional wait cycles required by competing products for PCI read cycles. It also achieves the fastest IOW/IOR response time in its class, at 24ns.
