In factories and harsh industrial environments, communication errors frequently occur due to noise or surges that travel in through communication lines from external sources, and repeated electrical stress of this kind can put expensive equipment and facilities at risk of damage. SystemBase's BASSO-1040D2/ISO is an isolated RS232 transceiver/splitter designed to operate reliably even in these conditions, providing bidirectional transmit/receive functionality on one RS232 line plus transmit-only functionality on three additional lines. With built-in protection against noise and surges entering through the RS232 communication line, it minimizes equipment and facility failure or damage and improves maintenance efficiency, delivering both high performance and high reliability.
An RS232 splitter distributes the input from one port across multiple outputs. In some situations, however, one of those output ports may also need to receive data, not just transmit it. To address that flexibly, output port 1 supports both transmit and receive, so it can be swapped into place in the field whenever bidirectional communication is needed on a particular line.
While all electrical and electronic devices require an external power supply to operate, SystemBase's BASSO-1040D2/ISO uses SystemBase's proprietary port power technology and a low-power design to generate its own operating power directly from the RS232 signal line, eliminating the need for a separate power setup in the field and making it an exceptionally versatile device.
CMOS digital isolation is an isolation technique that offers a compact size, high isolation performance, and low power consumption, delivering superior reliability compared with conventional optical isolation methods. This feature electrically isolates the input and output signals, protecting the device from external noise or strong electrical disturbances caused by nearby motors, actuators, or other equipment. When communicating with expensive equipment, isolation provides a cost-effective way to protect that equipment, and fields equipped with BASSO-1040D2/ISO benefit from a longer service life and greater stability than conventional setups.
Designed with the unpredictable conditions of industrial environments in mind, BASSO-1040D2/ISO incorporates multiple safeguards against electrical disturbances such as overvoltage entering through the RS232 port, along with high-reliability components, delivering both outstanding reliability and high performance.
