Approved by the Wi-Fi Alliance in 2016, IEEE 802.11ah (Wi-Fi HaLow) is a WLAN technology operating in the sub-1 GHz spectrum. Conventional 2.4 GHz ISM bands—commonly used for standard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE)—frequently suffer from heavy congestion and reduced stability due to overcrowding.
Wi-Fi HaLow overcomes these limitations by utilizing sub-1 GHz bands, transcending the traditional 100-meter range limit of conventional wireless technologies to deliver mid-to-long-range communication reaching 1 to 1.5 km.
